Concrete tile is moulded, coloured and cured, then hung on battens. It gives most of what clay gives — forty to sixty years, excellent fire performance, and the profile — for meaningfully less money.
The catch is weight. Concrete tile runs several times the weight of asphalt per square, and a frame designed for shingles will not take it without a structural check and, often, reinforcement.
The colour is applied rather than integral, so it fades over decades in a way clay does not. Most people never notice; some do.
