Synthetic slate on a new build
The architect wanted slate. The frame was designed for shingle. Composite gave the look at a quarter of the weight and no structural work at all.

The problem
Reproducing a natural slate's random coursing with a moulded product, without it reading as a repeat.
What we did
Mixed four thicknesses and five widths across the deck, set out so no pattern repeats within a slope.
The result
Reads as quarried slate from the ground, went on a standard frame, and carries a fifty-year warranty.
